Feed as you need
The foundation of good nutrition for your horse is adequate roughage and access to fresh drinking water. Supplement this base with concentrates or a balancer depending on the individual nutritional needs of the horse. Use supplements to fine tune.
Feeding recommendations for Cavalor Strucomix Performance
We recommend a minimum of 450 g to maximum 750 g per 100 kg body weight per day. For a 600 kg horse this means a minimum of 2.7 kg and a maximum of 4.5 kg per day. Divide the concentrate feed over several portions per day, preferably after
feeding roughage.
Energy from fiber, fat & smart starch
A sport horse needs extra energy to perform. First and foremost, the muscles require energy. A muscle consists of various types of muscle fibres that each support a different form of performance and use energy from difference sources. For example,
sprinting requires the use of muscles that draw energy from sugar and starch. For activities requiring endurance, muscle fibres that generate energy from fibre and fat are most often used. That is why this smart combination of fibre, fat and easily digestible starch is important for all-round performance.
But what is smart starch? Not every source of starch is the same. Smart starch is starch derived from carefully selected grains that are made more soluble by puffing or extruding. That makes them more easily and effectively digestible and allows the
horse to use energy more efficiently. Improved starch digestibility reduces the amount of undigested starch in the colon. This supports a stable intestinal balance and reduces the risk of undesirable digestive issues, such as intestinal acidification, colic, premature insulin spikes or laminitis. In addition, puffed and extruded ingredients taste better, are easily absorbed and create a lighter texture, which encourages slower eating and more chewing.
Optimal gut health
Contains pre-, pro- and postbiotics that help to bring and keep the digestive system in balance. This is especially important during training and competition periods. A balanced microbiome makes for a sport horse that feels good, performs more consistently and can get the best out of itself.
Probiotics are live, good bacteria that support gut flora. They help maintain the balance between good and bad bacteria, which is important for stable digestion and effective nutrient absorption.
Prebiotics serve as food for these good gut bacteria. They stimulate the development and activity of a healthy gut microbiome and therefore allow the gut to function more effectively.
Postbiotics arise when good gut bacteria convert nutrients. They support the gastrointestinal wall and immune system and help ensure a calm, resilient gut.
Sport essential multi-vitamins
The right vitamins allow a sport horse to perform optimally. In particular, vitamin E, B vitamins and vitamin C play an important role. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects the muscles against the damage that arises as a result of physical activity and helps with recovery. B vitamins, such as B1, B2, B6 and B12, play an important role in converting nutrients into energy
and help ensure the nervous system functions well and muscles are controlled. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that not only protects the body, but also supports the immune system.
Extrudates for better digestion
By using extrusion — a state-of-the-art technology — nutrients are easier to digest and absorb. An easily digestible feed helps a horse to get more out of every meal. The easier it is to digest, the more efficiently the horse can absorb and use energy
and nutrients from the feed. During the extrusion process, the ingredients are pre-cooked to allow them to be absorbed and used more easily by the body. Extrusion increases the digestibility of the starch in the ingredients. This starch release lowers
the risk of undigested starch particles entering the colon. Undigested starch in the colon acidifies it and increases the risk of health problems like colic, laminitis and muscle problems.
With their unique texture and volume, the extruded pieces stimulate chewing and ensure that horses eat more slowly. The increased chewing stimulates spit production, which contributes to the overall health of the gastrointestinal system.
Extra fibers
Horses naturally need fibre, as it is the most important source of energy but also encourages gut health. Fibre is also crucial to a horse’s well-being. The increased fibre content and added long fibres are a good source of nutrients for gut flora. In addition, they ensure that the horse chews for longer and produces more spit, which has a positive effect on digestion. The extra fibre slows down absorption, prevents boredom and ensures an even wearing down of teeth.
