Every horse is different. Each horse has different needs. Your horse’s nutritional needs depend on its breed, weight and age in combination with the amount of exercise it gets. And your horse may also have additional special dietary needs for which you’ll want to adjust its feeding. In this blog post we discuss Cavalor Tradition Mix and Cavalor Strucomix Original.
At first glance, Cavalor Tradition Mix and Cavalor Strucomix Original look quite similar: both are mueslis and both are ideal feeds for leisure horses and horses in rest. However, they address different needs.
Cavalor Tradition Mix: good foundation for a healthy horse
Cavalor Tradition Mix is a muesli with all the ingredients for a good basic ration. It contains essential nutrients and is especially suitable for horses with low energy requirements, including those in rest or light work. It makes a good base ration for a healthy horse.
Cavalor Strucomix Original: together in perfect harmony
Cavalor Strucomix Original goes that extra mile for your horse. It is the next step in your horse’s feeding. The difference is in the ingredients. For example, Cavalor Strucomix Original is made of puffed cereals and contains extra fibre as well as added herbs and omega-3 fatty acids.
What does this mean for your horse?
- Puffed cereals: Most mueslis are made of flaked cereals. These are more easily digestible than unprocessed cereals. But would you like a feed that’s even more easily digestible with less risk of digestive tract problems? Then use a feed that contains puffed cereals.
- Extra fibre: A horse normally grazes for around 16 hours a day. If he’s unable to do this, boredom or stress sets in, leading to stable vices. Long periods without feed also increase the risk of stomach ulcers. The higher the feed’s fibre content, the longer your horse will spend chewing, which is good for its intestinal flora and overall resistance. Cavalor Strucomix Original has extra fibre.
- Great tasting: Cavalor Strucomix Original has special herbs that make it extra tasty (even fussy eaters love it).
Why muesli?
Here at Cavalor, we are definitely muesli fans. For example, did you know that muesli makes a horse chew more? One kg of muesli requires 900 chews, compared to 600 chews for one kg of pellets. More chewing stimulates the production of saliva, which is good for your horse’s stomach and gut. Moreover, in a muesli the individual raw ingredients are still recognisable, so you can see exactly what your horse is getting.
Is the muesli not a complete ration for horses? No worries, with a muesli your horse will get enough nutrients. Important to know: 1 scoop of muesli weighs between 500 and 750 g, so always weigh the ration to make sure your horse gets enough.
