The foaling season still seems a long way off, but the winter months are just the right time to prepare your mare for the coming birth. The foal’s growth is slow at the beginning of gestation, and the mare gets adequate nutrients from her normal feed. However, in the final three months of pregnancy, the foal will experience an enormous growth spurt in utero. This increases the mare’s energy requirements. She needs extra nutrients to maintain a healthy weight and provide nourishment to her foetus.
Did you know, for example, that starting in the 8th month the mare’s body can no longer provide the foetus with copper? Copper is an important mineral for developing healthy joints. Your mare takes in copper through her feed and passes it on to her unborn foal.
Want to give your foal the best start possible? Then feed your mare Cavalor ProBreed pellet / mix from the 7th month onwards. Cavalor ProBreed is rich in trace minerals and vitamins (copper, zinc, manganese, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium) and contains all the nutrients that a pregnant mare needs.
The foaling season in Europe runs from April until August. This means that, by December, many mares are already in their 7th month. In other words, now is the best time to start!
